The Milligan 6 showing is located on the western slope of Mount Milligan, approximately 300 metres northwest of Mount Milligan’s peak and 6 kilometres south of Nation River and at an approximate elevation of 1350 metres.

The area is underlain by the Mount Milligan Intrusive Complex, which consists of at least two separate Early Jurassic intrusive phases.

Mineralization consists of disseminated pyrite, magnetite and traces of chalcopyrite (Assessment Report 20227, Appendix A (II), page 14, sample BB-17555). A rock sampled on the Milligan 6 showing and described as a medium-grained, massive, equigranular, biotitic, plagioclase porphyritic monzonite yielded 0.14 weight per cent copper (Assessment Report 20227).

Exploration for porphyry copper and copper-molybdenum in the Nation Lakes area was conducted in the 1960s and 1970s and government airborne geophysical surveys were completed in the 1960s. By 1989, interest in porphyry systems was revitalized in the region, in part because of the discovery of the nearby Mount Milligan deposit. As part of a regional effort, Aerodat Ltd flew an airborne magnetic/very low frequency electromagnetic survey over most of the property. In 1989, Continental Gold Corp. completed a helicopter airborne magnetic and very low frequency electromagnetic survey over most of the property. Follow-up surveys were recommended, including geological mapping and prospecting, over the Mt. Milligan summit.

In 2004 and 2005, Amarc Resources Ltd. conducted a geophysical and diamond drilling program on the Chona group. The work program included 248.165 kilometres of line cutting and magnetometer surveys, completed from October 2004 to September 2005 and 96 metres of diamond drilling completed from October 1 to October 15, 2005. The geophysical lines were generally spaced 400 metres apart with stations separated by 25 metres. Four areas of larger, anomalously high, total field magnetic response (greater than 2 kilometres in one dimension and greater than 57507.3 nanoTeslas in intensity) were identified. One NQ diamond drill hole, Chia 5010, was drilled and tested for porphyry copper-gold mineralization. Fifteen drill core samples were analyzed but resulted in no significant economic mineralization (Assessment Report 28007).

In 2010, a prospecting and soil geochemistry program was completed on the Milligan North property. A total of 11 B horizon soil samples were collected in 50-metre intervals across the contact between the Takla volcanics and intrusives. The results were relatively low, ranging 15 to 18 parts per million of copper, 0.5 to 0.8 parts per million of molybdenum, 1 to 15 parts per billion of gold and 0.08 to 0.18 parts per million of silver (Assessment Report 32097). The low geochemical response might be caused by excessive overburden depths or compositional factors in the tills.
